SKGABC Level 1 Day Kayak Guide Course

Setting the standard in Sea Kayaking Professionals - SKGABC

Throughout this program you will learn proficient paddling techniques using strokes, rescue systems, group management, risk assessment, leadership & communication. Other skills we will cover are navigation techniques, weather, tides currents and decision making based on observations, information and interpreting the conditions.

The ocean and surrounding environment that we live in is a powerful place and deserves respect. We must observe, listen, interpret and make safe, responsible decisions so that we can give people positive experiences.

The Level 1 guide course is a powerful introduction to the professional guiding industry and awesome training to support you and your community. Successful candidates are eligible to take the SKGABC AOG Upgrade Course to assist on multi day Kayak adventures in class 1, 2 and 3 waters!

Learning can begin once fully paid and registered for our program. You will be given access to our online campus which will ensure that you have the baseline theoretical knowledge prior to the practical part of the course.

  • Camping gear is not provided unless rented
  • Kayaks/Immersion/Paddle Equipment available to rent

Requirements to obtain SKGABC Certification
*You may fulfill these requirements before or after taking our Level 1 Course

Level One Guide: Certified to lead day trips in Class 1 waters. Certified to lead day trips in Class 2 waters when in direct communication to on-site/base manager.

  1. 16 hour (two day) Basic First Aid Course or equivalent
  2. CPR ticket (level C)
  3. Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime) for VHF radio
